About the museum

Since 1995 the toy museum has had its place in the Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus) of the town of Hemau on the Stadtplatz (town square). The town runs it as its own institution and displays toys from the 19th and 20th centuries.

The collection includes dolls with doll prams, doll rooms, doll crockery and doll houses, play shops, tin and wooden toys, as well as metal and wooden construction sets. There are also children's books, toy steam engines, plush toys, a Wild West town, a farm and toy castles. A working model railway is usually in operation during opening hours.
