About the museum
The farm museum belongs to the Erlebnisbauernhof of Elisabeth Wibmer in Echendorf, a district of Riedenburg in the Altmühl valley. It goes back to the collection of agricultural tools and machines assembled by Josef Böhm and, according to regional tourism portals, opened in 1988 and has been expanded ever since.
The exhibition traces the development of farming from heavy manual labor, for example with the flail, through the use of oxen and horsepower, such as the Göpel (horse gin), to the gas and diesel engines of the 1920s and 1930s. The old machines are demonstrated upon prior registration.
The museum is set within a lively farm: there is a play barn for children, a snack room (Brotzeitstüberl), and experience days for groups, where children can, for example, work an old mill, churn butter, twist rope or stroke the horse.
