Special exhibition
The special exhibition 2026/27 sets minerals and insects side by side: crystals, rocks, butterflies and insects that resemble one another in colour or form.
The Kristallmuseum Riedenburg goes back to the private collector Erhard Scholz. The occasion for building the museum in the early 1980s was the acquisition of an enormous rock crystal cluster, which was recovered in 1981 from a quartz mine in Arkansas and brought to Riedenburg the same year. It is considered the largest of its kind and remains the centerpiece of the house.
Around this cluster grew a collection of colorful tourmalines, cut gemstones, silver ores, and the largest emerald crystal from the Hohe Tauern. Changing special exhibitions complement the permanent display and link mineralogy with legends and history.
The grounds in the Altmühltal nature park also include a museum shop, a mini golf course, and the "Fassl", a venue for dining and events.
