Zeitreise ins Kinderzimmer
The exhibition shows how children used to play: often homemade toys made from simple materials, as well as older collectors' pieces, as a counter-model to digital overstimulation.

A hands-on museum in the classicist half-timbered house on the market square, with tin casters, historic shops, craftsmen's rooms and the local history of Quakenbrück.

Initial plans for a museum in Quakenbrück date back to 1902, but the idea only took shape in 1977, when a private patron provided rooms in a restaurant, which became the “Heimatstube und Stadtmuseum” (local heritage room and town museum). Museum work began in June 1978 with an exhibition on the artistic depiction of the town, and residents kept contributing exhibits.
The friends' association (Förderverein) was founded in 1980, and in 1983 the museum moved into part of the building at Markt 7. The two-story half-timbered house, a merchant's home from the classicist period around 1837, had previously been a hotel and restaurant (“Spohrs Hotel,” later “Artländer Hof”) and then a residence. In 1988 the attic was converted and furnished with the craft department; today about 460 square meters of exhibition space are available.
The collection covers living and working, urban and cultural history, and church and school. It includes the “Stadt der Zinngießer” (City of Pewter Casters) presentation, historic kitchens, a butcher's shop, an Art Nouveau pharmacy, craftsmen's rooms in the attic and a pub from around 1900.
