About the museum
The physician Heinz Dobelmann (1940–1996) from Löningen began as an amateur photographer with a 16-millimeter projector and built up an extensive collection of cinema projectors and accessories, for which he eventually erected a dedicated hall in his garden. After his death, the future of the collection initially remained open.
In 2009 a local company acquired the collection from his widow at the suggestion of the local tourist association. In 2010 the Verein Kinotechnische Sammlung Dr. Heinz Dobelmann e. V. was founded and has cared for the collection since then. In April 2013 the museum opened in its present rooms in the center of Löningen.
The exhibition shows about 120 years of analog cinema technology and the overall cinema experience, complemented by a small cinema hall in the style of the 1950s, where films are screened.
