About the museum
The Strausberg local history museum was founded in 1908 and has since collected artifacts and documents on the culture and way of life of the town's population. Today the municipal Stadtmuseum shows a permanent exhibition on the history of Strausberg from its earliest times to the present.
It is housed on August-Bebel-Straße in a building erected in 1861, which was converted and renovated between 1996 and 1999; the museum reopened in 1999. On the upper floor there is a museum library with Strausberg newspapers, local calendars and regional literature, which can be used after registration.
The museum is run by the city of Strausberg. Its program is supplemented by guided tours, lectures and events; the museum also sells the newsletters of the Akanthus e. V. association for regional history and monument preservation.
