About the museum
The radio museum is housed in a former school in the Werneuchen district of Seefeld, known as the "Radio-Schule Frohberg". Behind the house stands the Fred-Frohberg-Stiftung (Fred Frohberg Foundation), established in Berlin in 2006 to preserve the memory of the singer Fred Frohberg, who was popular in the GDR, and the culture of his era. It is supported by the association Fred-Frohberg-Stiftungsfördergesellschaft, which makes the devices and cultural objects from the foundation's holdings, as well as other exhibits, accessible to visitors in Seefeld.
The collection is spread thematically across several rooms. On the first floor, the exhibition "Klingende Radiogeschichte" spans the period from 1925 to 2000, and a club and training room displays radios and devices made of Bakelite. On the upper floor are Tonmöbel from four decades, which are brought to life in demonstrations as "Klangwunder" (sound wonders), as well as shellac records and gramophones in a historic setting. The exhibits include receivers from East German manufacturers such as Stern-Radio Sonneberg, Stern-Radio Berlin and Funkwerk Dresden, alongside West German, British, Dutch and Czech devices.
The house is open during the summer months, accompanied by events and ongoing expansion of the exhibition. The rooms, including the club in the style of the Wirtschaftswunder (postwar economic boom) years and a salon with period furniture, can also be used for celebrations, readings, concerts or filming.
