About the museum
The town museum in the Torschloss (gate castle) of Tettnang is devoted to everyday life in old Upper Swabia. The collection includes, among other things, an executioner's sword, carnival caps (Narrenkappen), a citizens' clock, golden hop medals and silver coins. The exhibition spans from the 534-year rule of the Counts of Montfort to the later Austrian, Bavarian and Württemberg periods.
Since 2019 the museum was to be redesigned together with the University of Konstanz; reopening was originally planned for the end of 2020. The project failed: an expert assessment found the student concept not viable. The museum has been closed since then until further notice. The Förderkreis Heimatkunde (local history support circle) is documenting the existing objects; no reopening date has been set.
