About the museum
The Hopfenmuseum belongs to the Hopfengut No20 farm above Tettnang, an operation where hops have been grown for generations. It shows how hop growing on the farm has changed over roughly the last 100 years, from the beginnings through the modern hop year to the history of beer and brewing.
This is brought to life through stories from the harvest season, such as those of the women who came to Tettnang for the harvest in the 1950s, and of the role of the hop farmer. The tour includes the high-performance Wolf WSZ550 picking machine, the drying kiln (Darre) where hops are dried at harvest time, a six-meter-high hop walkway with views over the hop gardens, and the demonstration brewery, where beer is brewed from the farm's own hops. The roughly four-kilometer Tettnanger Hopfenpfad (hop trail) ends at the farm. The operation is certified by Bioland and run as a GbR (civil partnership) by Lukas Locher and Charlotte Müller.
