About the museum
The water mill lies in the valley of the Nebel, a small stream near Krakow am See. It originally belonged to Kuchelmiß Castle, which was built in the 1860s and demolished about a hundred years later. The mill was preserved and is today considered a technical monument.
No grain is milled here anymore: since a fish ladder was built, the Nebel carries too little water to turn the mill wheel. Brown trout can now swim freely up to their spawning grounds, and the fish ladder can be watched on the mill grounds.
In the museum, across several floors, visitors can follow how grain becomes groats and flour; the former miller's residence shows furnishings of the miller's family. The grounds include a restored barn, where a café now operates and which can be used for celebrations, concerts and workshops. The mill is run by the Silberstein family as leaseholders.
