Weihnachtsausstellung

Christmas exhibition at the Stadtmuseum Teterow, opening on 27 November 2026; it runs until January 2027.

About the museum

Teterow's first local history museum was founded in 1933 by the local group of the Heimatbund Mecklenburg (Mecklenburg Homeland Association) and moved into the town hall two years later; the collection was lost during World War II. A second museum, established from 1955 in the St. Gertrud nursing home, was closed again in 1964 by decision of the district.

In the late 1970s, the conversion began of the Malchiner Tor, one of the two surviving medieval town gates, and the adjoining council and police servants' house into a local history museum. The town museum opened on International Museum Day, May 18, 1990. After a period under the roof of a cultural foundation, it has belonged to the town again since April 1, 1999.

Today exhibitions on the three gate floors and in the neighboring house inform visitors about town history, with emphasis on the Middle Ages, crafts and Jewish life. The well-preserved prison cells, fitted out in the 19th century, are unique. Children especially love the action days, when visitors can experience “Großmutters Waschtag” (grandmother's washday), grind flour on Bronze Age trough mills, or try historic street toys.
