About the museum
Tübingen has had a professorship in dentistry since 1910. Its first director, Hermann Peckert (1876–1940), laid the foundation of the collection, which is housed on the ground floor of the Zentrum für Zahn-, Mund- und Kieferheilkunde (Center for Dental, Oral, and Maxillofacial Medicine).
In the award-winning DENTAL | THINGS project, the Museum der Universität Tübingen (MUT) and the dental clinic turned the teaching collection into a museum. Objects from all fields of dentistry are shown as examples, together with research and teaching. Display panels explain the history of the field in general and in Tübingen in particular, referring to exhibits from the 16th century to the present. The often odd objects were newly staged with scenographic design.
The collection is one of the individual collections of the MUT. Due to construction work, it is not open to the public for the time being.
