About the museum
The Zoological Collection of the University of Tübingen goes back to a natural history cabinet that received its own room in Hohentübingen Castle in 1803. The oldest specimens come from donations by the Württemberg royal house. Much of the holdings is now kept at the Morgenstelle, while the publicly accessible display collection is located on Sigwartstraße in the Campus Tal.
The upper floor shows vertebrates and insects of Central Europe, and the ground floor shows exotic animals from Africa, Asia, Australia and America. Many of the species on display are now extinct or threatened with extinction.
A special feature is the collection of 32 glass models of marine invertebrates by the glassblowers Leopold and Rudolph Blaschka, which is not open to the public. This collection belongs to the individual collections of the Museum der Universität Tübingen (MUT) and is affiliated with the Chair of Comparative Zoology.
