Märkisches Ziegeleimuseum Glindow

Association-run museum in the tower of the Glindow brickworks on the region's brick-making history, with tours of the Hoffmann ring kiln from 1868.

Opening hoursAdmission from €4

About the museum

Clay was extracted in the Glindow Hills early on; brick production here is documented since 1462, initially by monks. The rare, yellow-firing clay could be shipped via Lake Glindow and the Havel as far as Potsdam and Berlin. During the heyday toward the end of the 19th century, the kilns lined up closely along the lakeshore, before the clay deposits were exhausted and richer deposits were developed elsewhere.

The museum has existed since 1993 in the Museumsturm (museum tower), an ornamental building erected around 1890 on the brickworks grounds. It is run by the volunteer-based Förderverein Historische Ziegelei Glindow (friends' association), which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2025. The collection includes finds and historical testimonies on brick production in and around Glindow; from the tower there is a wide view over the landscape.

Immediately next to it stands the heritage-protected Hoffmann ring kiln from 1868, which was used almost continuously for a century and a half. Since 1990, the Glindow brick manufactory has again been producing hand-molded bricks and shaped bricks, primarily for the restoration of historic monuments. In cooperation with the company, the association guides visitors through the kiln and manufactory.
