On show are selected works of the Heikendorf artists' colony on the Kiel Fjord, including coastal and landscape pictures and portraits by Heinrich Blunck, Georg Burmester and Rudolf Behrend. Cooperation with the Künstlermuseum Heikendorf.
About the museum
In January 2002, the Förderverein Havelländische Malerkolonie (friends' association) was founded with the aim of setting up a museum in the last surviving Kossätenhaus (smallholder's house) in Ferch. The thatched half-timbered house, dating from the 18th century, was badly dilapidated when the then municipality of Ferch acquired it in 2002 and made it available to the association. The timber frame, the beams and the Schwarze Küche (black kitchen) were carefully restored and combined with modern elements such as a steel floor and illuminated hanging panels.
The museum opened in 2008. To this day it is run on a volunteer basis by members of the friends' association. Its changing exhibitions recall the artists who worked around the Schwielowsee and the Havel. Paintings, sculptures, prints, photographs and documents are displayed across two floors.
The heart of the museum is its collection, which keeps growing through purchases, donations and long-term loans. It includes works by Karl Hagemeister, Arthur Borghard, Carl Kayser-Eichberg, Johannes Hänsch and Hans-Otto Gehrcke, as well as loans from Theo von Brockhusen and Gerhard Graf. As a member of euroArt, the museum is networked with other European artists' colonies.
