About the museum
The Archaeological Museum of Chora was founded in 1969 by the Archaeological Service, under the responsibility of the then Ephorate of Antiquities of Olympia. It is located in Chora in Triphylia and presents, among other things, finds from the Palace of Nestor at Ano Englianos.
Its collections include vessels and small objects of the Middle Helladic and Mycenaean periods from sites such as Peristeria, Routsi, Volimidia and Tragana, as well as movable finds from the Palace of Nestor. The material comes from excavations at the palace, but also at important settlements and cemeteries of Mycenaean Messenia.
The museum building is being upgraded; during the works the museum operates with restrictions, and from 1 January 2027 it will remain closed.
