About the museum

The Archaeological Museum of Veroia began to be built in the early 1960s and operated as an organised museum from 1965. Until then the finds of the city and of the prefecture of Imathia were kept in the Town Hall and other public buildings.

The museum is housed in a single-storey building with three rooms. The first displays funerary groups of the Hellenistic period, namely vessels, weapons and jewellery, as well as a model of a chamber tomb from Veroia. The second contains sculptures, inscriptions, vessels and figurines of the Hellenistic period, while the third has sculptures, portraits, figurines and jewellery of the Roman period.

In July 2021 the permanent semi-open-air exhibition “The Wall of Memory” was inaugurated, with funerary stelai and honorary altars of personalities of the ancient city. The most important exhibit is the inscription with the “Gymnasiarchic” Law of Veroia, a regulatory text on the running of the city's gymnasium.
