About the museum
The Museum of Cycladic Art opened in January 1986 to house the collection of Cycladic and ancient Greek antiquities that Nicholas and Dolly Goulandris had legally assembled since the 1960s. The museum presents the art of the Cyclades, ancient Greece, Cyprus, the Aegean and the eastern Mediterranean from the 4th millennium BC to around the 6th century AD.
The central building stands at the junction of Vasilissis Sofias and Neofytou Doukas streets. Since 1991 one wing of the museum has operated in the Stathatos Mansion.
The core of the collections consists of Cycladic finds from the 3rd millennium BC. After the museum was founded the collections were enriched with donations and purchases, and in 2002 Thanos Zentilis donated his large collection of Cypriot antiquities. Today around 3,000 important works are on display, and the museum also hosts temporary exhibitions of ancient and contemporary art.
