About the museum
The School Life Museum was founded in 2006 by the Prefectural Self-Government of Chania and is housed in the former primary school of the village of Nerokourou, about 4 kilometres south of the city of Chania. The building operated as a school from 1930 to 2000.
The purpose of the museum is to research, document and preserve the history of education in Crete and to link it with today's school. It is aimed mainly at pupils and teachers, but older visitors who rediscover their school years also come. Its first exhibition was titled “Come, let us bring the wooden desks back to life”.
