About the museum
The building on Nefelejcs utca, in which the museum now operates, was bought by the glass artist Róth Miksa in 1910, and before his family and workshop moved in he had it partly rebuilt. He lived on the upper floor of the street building with his wife, Walla Jozefin, and their three children, while the Róth workshop operated in the rear part of the plot. After Róth Miksa's death in 1944, some members of the family still lived in part of the building.
Before the change of regime, the Róth children offered their father's legacy to Erzsébetváros, with the aim of opening a memorial house and collection in the former home. The museum now operates as a cultural institution of Erzsébetváros and is run by the KULT7 Erzsébetváros Nonprofit Kft. (KULT7 Erzsébetváros Non-profit Ltd.).
The applied art exhibitions on the ground and first floors offer a selection from the glass art of the Róth workshop: here one can see the joint work with the Zsolnay factory and with Nagy Sándor, as well as masterpieces of historicism, Art Nouveau and Art Deco. The first-floor flat museum recalls the former rooms of the Róth family with original furniture and workshop creations.
