About the museum
Kört is a small museum in the middle of Trékyllisvík in Strandir. The founder, farmer Valgeir Benediktsson at Árnes II, has for years collected objects and handicrafts from the district, such as old tools, textiles and items made of stone and driftwood. When the collection began to attract passers-by, he built a special house on his land in the mid-1990s, from driftwood from the shore.
The purpose of the museum is, among other things, to preserve the stories of people who have died and who did something remarkable or lived an unusual life. Among the objects are old items from daily life, such as stone bowls and lamps.
The house also sells knitwear by local people, art objects and driftwood carvings by Valgeir. Coffee and light refreshments are available on site, and guided tours of Trékyllisvík and the surrounding area are offered.
