About the museum
The cottage at Corranmore, near Kiltyclogher in County Leitrim, was the family home of Seán Mac Diarmada, who became one of the seven signatories of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic in 1916. It is the only original homestead of any of the signatories that survives. The house is a National Monument in the care of the Office of Public Works.
The cottage has been kept in its original condition for many years. It is a traditional Irish farmhouse, and visitors see it furnished with everyday furniture and kitchen utensils that give an idea of rural life about a hundred years ago.
Visits are by guided tour, which are arranged through Kiltyclogher Heritage Centre, about 5 km away, where an exhibition covers the life of Mac Diarmada. A tour of the cottage takes about 40 minutes on average.
