About the museum

Thomond Park Stadium in Limerick is the home ground of Munster Rugby, and the stadium includes an interactive museum devoted to the history and heritage of the province’s rugby tradition. The museum is entered as part of the guided museum and stadium tour, which the stadium runs on weekdays and for pre-booked groups on Saturdays.

The displays bring together memorabilia from the club’s history, including the match ball from Munster’s famous victory over the All Blacks in 1978 and the Heineken Cup trophy of 2006. Touch screens and interactive displays are designed to appeal to visitors of all ages. A film commissioned for the museum, called “We are Munster”, shows the tradition of the club and the bond between the team and its supporters.

After the museum the tour continues behind the scenes at the stadium, to areas that are usually open only to players and officials on match days. Visitors see the home and away dressing rooms, the press room, the tunnel and the pitch-side Munster dugout, where a photograph is taken, and they can try an interactive game zone. The whole tour takes about an hour, and schools can book it as a day out.
