About the museum
The house-study is in the centre of Florence, in via delle Pinzochere, in the sixteenth-century Palazzo Da Cepparello, later called Da Verrazzano and, in the nineteenth century, Casamorata. The architecture is close to the style of Giuliano da Sangallo and Baccio d'Agnolo.
The writer Piero Bargellini (1897–1980) bought the palace in 1946 and carried out his literary and civic activity there. He was councillor for Fine Arts, mayor of Florence in 1966, the year of the flood, and for a long time a member of parliament. In the study, the most distinctive room, with very high coffered ceilings, he wrote more than sixty books and for over thirty years welcomed writers, artists and personalities from cinema and theatre.
The rooms are kept as the owner left them, with hundreds of letters and dedications addressed to him. Six large fourteenth-century frescoes removed from the church of the Busche, at Poggio alla Malva, are also displayed in the palace. The house is part of the Associazione Nazionale Case della Memoria and is visited by booking.
