About the museum
The Case romane del Celio lie in the basement of the basilica of Santi Giovanni e Paolo, among the sites of underground archaeology in Rome. The complex has been open to the public since 2002.
The rooms, developed over more than four centuries, include rooms of various sizes with original frescoes in excellent condition, of great artistic and religious value. The route shows the coexistence of pagan and Christian history: the memory of the martyrs John and Paul is intertwined with traces of domestic life in ancient Rome.
The visit takes place in entry slots, including guided tours departing at fixed times; audio guides and bookshop services are available.
