About the museum
The Parco archeologico del Celio occupies the northern part of the hill, opposite the Colosseum, and was opened to the public in January 2024 by Roma Capitale. The green route includes the perimeter foundations of the Temple of Divus Claudius, the main ancient remains in the area.
In the park an archaeological garden has been set up where large inscriptions and architectural fragments from the former Antiquarium Comunale, recovered in the excavations of the late 19th century, are arranged by theme.
Within the area is the Museo della Forma Urbis, housed in the former GIL gymnasium, which holds fragments of the marble plan of Rome. The park is managed by the Sovrintendenza Capitolina, while services are run by Zètema Progetto Cultura.
