About the museum

The centre is housed in the private chapel of the family of Baron Giuseppe Zambra, built at the beginning of the 18th century beside a medieval tower and used by the local nobility until 1806. Left abandoned for almost two centuries and damaged by the 1980 earthquake, it was restored from 1986 to a design by the architects Roberto Damiani and Daniele Rosati, with care taken to preserve the vault, the windows and the Baroque altars.

The Comune invited Alberto Di Giovanni, born in Roccamorice and active for decades in Canada in promoting the Italian language and culture, to give the space a permanent purpose. Di Giovanni has donated paintings, ceramics, rare books, signed editions and facsimiles of the Codice di Leonardo, as well as a collection of special editions of the Divina Commedia.

The donations are joined by works of sacred art from churches in the area, restored thanks to the commitment of the parish priest; in the choir gallery paintings by Canadian artists are displayed. The centre was inaugurated in July 2011 with a concert in the square in front.
