About the museum
The Corridoio Vasariano was built in 1565 by Giorgio Vasari for Cosimo I de’ Medici. The route, about 750 metres long, allowed the grand-ducal family to move between Palazzo Vecchio, the Uffizi and Palazzo Pitti, sheltered from the crowds.
The route crosses the Arno above the Ponte Vecchio and continues between the houses to the Giardino di Boboli. Over the centuries numerous paintings were collected along it, in particular a famous collection of self-portraits.
The corridor was closed in 2016 for safety upgrade works and, after extensive restoration, reopened to the public at the end of 2024. The one-way visit starts at the Uffizi and ends in the Giardino di Boboli.
