About the museum
FabbricaPoggi occupies the buildings of the former Poggi furniture factory, on the outskirts of Pavia. The family tradition goes back to the carpenter Luigi Poggi, active at the beginning of the 20th century; in the 1940s Carlo Poggi turned the workshop into a factory in the historic centre. In 1953 the brothers Ezio and Roberto Poggi moved the business to a new purpose-built site, the one that now houses the project.
From the 1950s the firm mass-produced furniture by leading designers, beginning with its collaboration with Franco Albini and Franca Helg (among the best-known pieces is the PT1 Luisa armchair, awarded the Compasso d'Oro in 1955), and later with Ugo La Pietra, Vico Magistretti, Marco Zanuso and others. After Ezio's death in 1962, Roberto ran the company alone; production was suspended around 2005 and the firm closed for good in 2010.
After restoration work, since 2022 the spaces have reopened as a venue dedicated to design, architecture and art. They house a permanent collection of the historic serial pieces and some prototypes, a historic archive with drawings and photographs, a library, and a hangar for events, exhibitions and workshops.
