About the museum
The Galleria d'Arte Moderna di Genova (GAM) is based in Nervi, in Villa Saluzzo Serra, a building of 16th-century origin that was extended and decorated between the mid-18th and early 20th centuries and is surrounded by historic parks overlooking the sea. The museum opened at the end of the 1920s and was completely rethought in 2004.
The first nucleus of the collections comes from the donation of Prince Odone di Savoia in 1866, added to over time by bequests and purchases that document the artistic and cultural development of the city and its territory. Today the civic collections number more than three thousand works, including paintings, sculptures, drawings and prints, of which a selection is on display.
The GAM is part of the Musei di Nervi network, together with the Raccolte Frugone, the Museo Giannettino Luxoro and the Wolfsoniana, linked by a route through the public parks and the rose garden of Villa Grimaldi Fassio.
