About the museum
The Galleria Rinaldo Carnielo is housed in a Liberty-style building that was the home and studio of the sculptor Rinaldo Carnielo (1853–1910). The Comune di Firenze acquired it in 1957 thanks to a bequest from the artist’s son, Enzo Carnielo, and turned it into a gallery dedicated to the sculptor.
The collection includes more than 300 sculptures by Carnielo: bas-reliefs, large plaster casts and preparatory sketches, as well as small bronzes. Alongside the sculptor’s works there are also paintings by his contemporaries, including Silvestro Lega, Michele Gordigiani and Arturo Calosci.
The gallery is part of the Musei Civici Fiorentini. At present the official page lists it as temporarily closed to the public, without giving a reopening date.
