About the museum
The Giardino dei Tarocchi arose from the vision of the artist Niki de Saint Phalle, who in 1978 began building a park of large sculptures on land belonging to the Caracciolo brothers at Garavicchio, in the municipality of Capalbio. The works are inspired by the major arcana of the Tarot.
The Fondazione Il Giardino dei Tarocchi was established in Rome on 4 August 1997, and the park was inaugurated for the general public on 15 May 1998, although it had already been receiving visitors before that. The official recognition of the Foundation by the Tuscany Region dates from 2002.
Today the garden can be visited from April to mid-October with a ticket bought online. The route runs over uneven ground, so access for people with severe mobility difficulties is limited.
