About the museum
From 1978 the farm tools owned by residents of Capannori were displayed during the local livestock fair. The cultural association La Ruota, founded in 1989 to protect and promote the material and cultural heritage of rural civilisation, gave this collection a permanent home and looks after its custody and display.
The route reconstructs rural interiors from the first half of the 20th century: the old kitchen and bedroom, the weaving room, the vat room and the farmhouse, and the blacksmith’s workshop. The larger machines, such as wooden and iron ploughs, seed drills, water wheels, irrigation pumps and threshing machines, most of them dating from 1920 onwards, are displayed outdoors under metal canopies.
The association also organises guided school visits to olive presses, water mills and hydraulic works in the area, and has published booklets and documentaries on peasant culture.
