About the museum
The name Munlab combines “mun”, the Piedmontese dialect word for brick, and “lab”, the experimental spirit of a laboratory. The ecomuseum is housed in a century-old kiln, next to a factory that is still in operation and to its quarries. Where extraction has ended, nature has created a green oasis with ponds, woods and meadows.
Through exhibition rooms, workshops and spaces for relaxation, Munlab explores the link between clay, territory and people. Visitors retrace the life and work stories connected with brick production and discover the properties of the material through hands-on activities. The ecomuseum also promotes research into and the enhancement of local knowledge linked to the environmental regeneration of quarries and kilns, terracotta architecture and ceramic design, and involves the community through events, nature walks and cultural festivals. It is part of the Piedmontese and national ecomuseum networks.
