About the museum
The museum was founded in 1903 from a collection of shells and minerals brought from France by the Fratelli della Sacra Famiglia (Brothers of the Holy Family), the congregation whose house is at Villa Brea, on the road between Chieri and Pecetto. Over the 20th century the collection grew through purchases and donations and came to specialise above all in ornithology.
The bird section is the most important: it comprises several hundred specimens, partly European and partly from Africa and South America, some of them dating back to the late 19th century. Alongside the birds, mammals, fish, reptiles, amphibians, boxes of Italian and exotic insects and a collection of shells are on display.
The museum is housed in the institute of the Brothers of the Holy Family and is opened to visitors on request; admission is free.
