About the museum
The museum occupies the second floor of Palazzo Osasco, on the west side of today's piazza Galimberti, where the lawyers Tancredi Galimberti senior and, later, his son Tancredi, known as Duccio, lived and worked. The original signs bearing the family name still mark the entrance to the home and the law office.
In 1974 Carlo Enrico Galimberti gave the municipality of Cuneo the furnishings, artworks, library and family archive, wishing them to remain in the house where the family had lived. The museum holds testimonies about the family and its role in Cuneo society between the 19th and 20th centuries, with particular attention to Duccio Galimberti, an anti-fascist lawyer and one of the first organisers of the Resistance in the province of Cuneo, who was proclaimed a national hero after his killing in December 1944.
The rooms preserve paintings by artists such as Lorenzo Delleani, Giacomo Grosso and Matteo Olivero, and sculptures by Bistolfi and Godet. The library, with over 25,000 volumes, and the family archive, which documents more than a century of public and private life from 1859 to 1974, can be consulted by scholars by appointment.
