About the museum
Giannino Castiglioni, sculptor, painter and medallist, was born in Milan on 4 May 1884 and died in Lierna on 27 August 1971. In 2003 his heirs donated around 300 works to the Municipality of Lierna, mostly preparatory plaster studies, together with his tools and atelier drawings linked to the work on one of the doors of Milan Cathedral.
The museum opened in 2015 and holds the first nucleus of the collection in the municipal seat and in the Casa delle Associazioni. In the same year twenty-four works underwent conservation restoration with the heritage authority (Soprintendenza). The initiative aims to tell the life of the sculptor and the local history, and also to host works by other artists and designers linked to the area.
The Associazione Giannino Castiglioni promotes the artist’s legacy, including through dedicated weeks, exhibitions and guided visits to the open-air museum of Lierna and to the plaster store on Via Papa Giovanni XXIII.
