About the museum
The Ginosa municipal museum, on Corso Vittorio Emanuele, holds a substantial archaeological heritage found in the municipal territory. The collection documents human presence going back at least to the Middle Palaeolithic, with evidence of the Mousterian culture.
The largest group belongs to the Peucetian culture (6th–2nd century BC), represented by Apulian craters, epichysis, kyathoi and other vessels. One section is devoted to the Roman period and the municipium of Genusia, believed to have been located on the plain of Madonna Dattoli. Among the documents is a tabula patronatus dated to AD 395.
The rooms also house material from the late antique settlement at the rock villages of Casale and Rivolta, including majolica attributable to workshops of the Laertino type.
