About the museum
The museum is dedicated to the sculptor Floriano Bodini, who was born in Gemonio. It opened in 1998 at the wish of the municipality, with the collaboration of the Province of Varese and the Comunità Montana della Valcuvia, and with funding from Regione Lombardia and Fondazione Cariplo.
The building is an eighteenth-century rural farmhouse, known as “cà della Maria Gill”, restored in the 1990s by the architects Annig Sarian and Gianni Pozzi, respecting the original materials and forms.
At the centre of the route stands the bronze “Lamento sull’Ucciso” (1961). The collections include the plasters of major public works such as the “Monumento ai sette di Gottinga” and the “Monumento al Cavatore”, small bronzes by artists of the 19th and 20th centuries, a gallery of portraits, family works in terracotta and bronze, and three sculptures by Bodini from the 1950s in the garden. The museum also has a library, spaces for exhibitions, workshops and concerts, and it is part of the network of Archivi del Contemporaneo.
