About the museum

The museum is housed in the 15th-century Palazzo Como in the heart of Naples, now also called Palazzo d'Arte Filangieri. It was founded by Prince Gaetano Filangieri, who dedicated the first room to his father Carlo, a general of the Kingdom of Naples.

The route consists of a few rooms of strong character. The Sala Carlo Filangieri holds 18th- and 19th-century arms and armour from China, Japan and Turkey, and a bust of Carlo Filangieri by Tito Angelini. The Sala Agata, named after the prince's mother, Agata Moncada di Paternò, has a majolica floor with the Filangieri coat of arms, an iron-and-glass skylight dating from 1888 and paintings from the 17th to the 19th century, with works by artists such as Ribera, Solimena and Luca Giordano. On the upper floor porcelain is displayed, including pieces from Meissen and Capodimonte.

The Library, which was the prince's study, holds about 8,000 volumes, wooden furnishings, a collection of coins and medals, family memorabilia and sculptures by Tito Angelini and Nicola Renda. Concerts are also held in the Sala Agata, such as the Baroque music festival Partenope Barocco.
