About the museum
The Museo del Pane Forte, opened in 2019 on the initiative of Vito Forte, occupies the site of a 14th-century medieval bakery in the centre of Altamura. The Antico Forno Forte is among the oldest bakeries in the town: a notarial deed of sale attests its existence as early as 1300.
The museum displays antique bread-making equipment and tells the story of Altamura through its emblematic product, the first bread to receive European Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status, in 2003. It presents itself with the motto “Storie di pane, passione e sogni”.
