About the museum
The museum complex tells the story and present life of the Contrada della Tartuca through the objects on display. It is attached to the oratory of Sant'Antonio da Padova alle Murella, a Baroque building erected between 1682 and 1685 by Niccolò and Iacomo Franchini, and it is organized into three sections.
The Museo del Palio holds the drappelloni won by the contrada, including works by artists such as Fernando Botero and Igor Mitoraj. The Museo del Costume collects the costumes used in the historical procession from the second half of the 19th century to today. The Museo degli arredi sacri, opened in 2008, displays the contrada's liturgical objects, including a silver masgalano, chased and embossed, dated 1562, with The Rape of Europa.
The visit also includes the oratory, which is an integral part of the complex.
