About the museum
The museum is housed in the 15th-century Villa Le Coste in Fiesole, which for many years was the home of the painter Primo Conti. The villa was bought in 1945 and became the seat of the Foundation when it was established in 1980, thanks to the donation of the Conti family, as a centre for documentation and research on the historical avant-gardes of the early 20th century. The Foundation has two sections: the Museum, with the master's works, and the Archive, with a specialized library.
The museum holds 66 paintings and 163 drawings by Primo Conti, covering a period from 1911, the year of his debut with an early self-portrait, to 1985. The route follows his early studies of the human figure, his first interest in Fauvism and the Futurist period, the recovery of form and expressive techniques, and the lively, lyrical painting of his final years. It allows the visitor to follow the development of Italian and European art of the 20th century through a single artist.
The villa also houses the Studio del Maestro, home to art workshops for children; the ground-floor spaces and the villa park are available for events.
