About the museum

The idea of a mountaineering museum was born in 2003 in the Bolzaneto section of the Italian Alpine Club (Club Alpino Italiano), on the proposal of Giulio Gamberoni, who first set it up at the section’s headquarters in Via Reta. In 2006 the project won a prize from the Cassin Foundation. Material was collected from members, Italian and foreign sections and other associations; in 2011 the Valpolcevera Municipality made available spacious premises in the nineteenth-century building at Via Pastorino 8. Renovated by the section, they were inaugurated as a museum on 23 April 2012.

The building later became the seat of the Casa della Cultura “Edoardo Sanguineti” (cultural centre) and was renovated until the end of 2025; in the meantime the museum remained closed. The fully renovated museum reopened on 30 April 2026. It now comprises three rooms, a corridor and restrooms. The rooms display climbing and ski-mountaineering equipment from the last century, memorabilia of the history of CAI Bolzaneto, and display cases with mountaineering material donated by members. The “Giulio Gamberoni” room has panels on the key milestones in the history of mountaineering and a collection of rocks from the mountains where members have made first ascents or repeated routes.
