About the museum
The museum grew out of a collection of objects, mostly found on the battlefields of the First World War and especially on the Karst, gathered by Guido Mattioli of Crevalcore and later donated to the municipality of Crevalcore.
The current display, set up in 1988 at the primary school in Crevalcore, uses a sequence of thematic cabinets to show the tragedy of daily life and death for the combatants and the cruelty of the instruments of death. Each cabinet is devoted to a theme: signs of destruction, weapons as silent witnesses, the soldiers’ personal belongings, letters and life in the trenches. The last one turns to the affection of those left behind, through photographs of the fallen.
