About the museum
The Museo della Storia del Genoa tells the story of the oldest club in Italy, founded on 7 September 1893, and the origins of Italian football and its link with the city of Genoa. It is run by the Fondazione Genoa 1893 ETS, established in 2006 to preserve and pass on the history, values and identity of the club and its supporters.
The museum officially opened on 5 June 2009 at Salita Dinegro 7, in premises once occupied by a Genoese newspaper, after a historical-documentary exhibition set up in the same location in 2008. On 21 June 2013 the current site was inaugurated, named Genoa Museum and Store, in the Palazzina del Cinquecento San Giobatta (a 16th-century building) in the Porto Antico; it is spread over three levels with more than 500 square metres, ten exhibition rooms and the club's official shop.
The route, from the origins in 1893 to the first trophies, displays documents, photographs, images and memorabilia. Among the objects is the Coppa d'Onore, the trophy won with the first three Italian championships. The foundation also looks after the historical archive and a programme of exhibitions, events and educational activities for schools and families.
