About the museum
The Museo Etnografico del Bosco e della Mezzadria, opened in 1993, is located in the locality of Borgolozzi, in the Comune of Sovicille, in the hills of the upper Val di Merse. It studies, protects and disseminates knowledge of the forest and its expressions, with particular attention to respect for nature and environmental education.
Starting from the evidence of human life and work in the forest, the museum illustrates the close bond between people and woodland through past trades, such as the charcoal burner and the woodcutter, and through the production activities linked to chestnuts. It also seeks to convey the emotions the forest arouses, through stories and literature.
The museum has developed a network of equipped trails running into the hills of the upper Val di Merse and following the traces of the old peasant presence and of the professions linked to the forest environment. The trail map, also in English, can be downloaded from the Comune's website. According to the Comune's listing, the museum is currently closed to the public.
