About the museum
The museum was founded in the 1970s, when some residents of Ponte in Valtellina began collecting objects of peasant life with the support of the municipality. Donations from local families and from nearby areas gradually formed the collection.
In the 1990s the collections were moved to a larger space. After a period of maintenance work, the museum reopened in 2010 with a new thematic display. It is on the ground floor of the former Jesuit college, now a lower secondary school, next to the church of Sant'Ignazio and overlooking the small Prigioni courtyard.
The rooms follow the cycle of the farming year: work in the fields, the grape harvest and winemaking, livestock, spinning and weaving, as well as household tools for laundry, cooking and heating. The museum holds educational activities and events throughout the year.
