About the museum
The museum is located in the Colle Don Bosco complex in Castelnuovo Don Bosco and is dedicated to Cardinal Giovanni Cagliero, born in the same town as Don Bosco and leader of the first Salesian missionary expedition, which set out for Argentina in 1875.
The display documents the missionary dimension of Don Bosco's “dream of the nine years”: the Salesian venture begun in 1875 is today present in more than 130 countries, with educational and health work and emergency relief. The showcases hold significant objects from the material, family, working, religious and social life of the countries visited by the missionaries.
The museum thus bears witness to the work of the Salesians and to encounters with cultures unknown to most visitors.
