About the museum
The Museo Ferroviario di Suno was inaugurated on 25 April 2013 on the initiative of a group of railway and model railway enthusiasts, brought together in a volunteer association. It is housed in the buildings of the Suno railway stop on the Novara–Domodossola line, in the hamlet of Baraggia.
The visit takes place in three buildings. The passenger building, the museum’s historic seat since 2013, houses the model railway rooms on the ground floor and, on the first floor, the oldest part, with reconstructions of railway cabins, uniforms, caps and numerous memorabilia. The former outdoor toilets and the forecourt form the room dedicated to railway infrastructure (signalling, track and electric traction), while the former goods warehouse houses the reconstruction of a traffic office and a waiting room.
The staff accompany visitors and let them touch some objects, making the visit interactive. Over time the museum has renewed its displays several times (new layout of the rooms in 2019) and celebrated ten years of activity in 2023. A social model railway layout, the restoration of an FS draisine (rail inspection vehicle) and the project for an E636 locomotive cab are currently in progress.
